The
UN Security Council praised the work and integrity of the IHEC and
its Board of Commissioners (BoC) to run the IPE of 2014 during the
council session to review the hard circumstances in Iraq. During the
session, the
representative of the Secretary -General of the United Nations, Mr.
Nickolay Miladinov presented a briefing on the situation there.
A statement issued by the UN Security Council on 6 June on the situation in Iraq, expressing its support for the important role to play in Iraq, and the continuing support provided by the United Nations for the Iraqi people and government.
The UN Security Council praised the IHEC, Iraqi security forces, the Iraqi people, candidates and coalitions to run successful elections despite of all security challenges. The UN Security Council emphasized that Iraq could challenge the hard circumstances through its democratic institutions, and in cooperation with the Iraqi society organizations.
It also mentioned that a number of countries as the United States, Britain, Russia, China and other countries, as well as the European Union, the League of Arab States, International and Arabic institutions specialized in elections praised the work and efforts of the IHEC. They praised the work of the IHEC in organizing the referendums and electoral processes and the development of its procedures to enhance transparency, integrity and trust.
